Master Keying Class

March 10th — Wednesday | 8:00 AM– 5:00 PM PST

Students will be introduced to the math used in master keying. Through hands-on progressions and real-world examples, this course builds a solid foundation in planning, structuring, and understanding master key systems for pin tumbler cylinders.

What You'll Learn:

• Mathematical Progressions — Understanding the basic process of mathematical progression in master keying
• Four-Factor Key Progressions — What they are and where they're used
• Five-Factor Key Systems — What they are and where they're used
• Choosing the Right System — Who uses each progression type, and why
• Combinations of Combinations — How to properly plan and structure key systems
• Key System Nomenclature — Different naming conventions for identifying keys within a system
• Multiplexing — An introduction to multiplexing concepts and practices in large facilities
• Real-World Application — Working out a full keying system for an office complex
• Applying the Math On-Site — Instruction on taking these concepts from the classroom to the job site
• Selecting Good Master Keys — The rules for selecting sound master keys, and the reasoning behind them

Hands-On Practice:
Students will work through mathematical progressions for a simple 64-combination key system and a medium-scope 256-combination master key system.

How You'll Be Assessed:
Testing will be through observation and questions throughout the class.

What You'll Walk Away With:
A working understanding of master keying math, system planning, and nomenclature — with the confidence to apply these concepts to a real job site, from a small office to a larger facility.
