This beginner course is the starting point for anyone entering the locksmith trade. Students will build a solid foundation in the core mechanical skills every locksmith needs — from understanding how pin tumbler locks work to performing real-world service tasks with confidence.

• Kwikset SmartKey Reset Procedures — Step-by-step rekeying of SmartKey-style locks without removing the cylinder
• Master Keying Systems — Introduction to master keying concepts, cross-keying, and key change series
• Lock Hardware Installation — Door prep, backset measurement, and correct installation of residential and light commercial locksets
• Key Identification & Duplication Basics — Reading key blanks, identifying keyways, and producing accurate duplicates
• Intro to Residential & Commercial Cylinders — Common cylinder types (KW1, SC1, Schlage B-series, and more) and when you'll encounter them in the field
